Dopo il declino di scienza e tecnologia, una nuova fonte energetica nota come "magia" alimenta l'epoca moderna. L'umanità arriva così a creare delle armi biologiche proibite, i Gears, che a un certo punto si ribellano. Il genere umano sopravvive al conflitto, ma con perdite enormi, con ferite anche emotive che nemmeno con i decenni trascorsi si sono completamente rimarginate. In questo contesto, Sin Kiske, figlio di un umano e di un Gear, si reca al matrimonio dei suoi genitori, considerabile per certi versi come un'eresia, e infatti persino in un mondo oramai in pace sono serviti molti anni per poter celebrare le nozze. All'improvviso, appare una misteriosa ragazza, che detesta i Gears... l'incontro tra il figlio di una simile unione e la ragazza sconvolgerà il mondo.
